American record label focussing on hip hop / black music. Owned by entertainment attorney and artist manager [[artist:348491]] and his son [[artist:171166]], Blackground was initially founded in 1993 as [[label:70430]] to release music by [[artist:348491]]'s niece, [[artist:13733]]. Named [[label:10386]] until 2000, it switched distribution deals over time - releases were distributed by Jive, Atlantic, Virgin, Universal, Interscope and Reservoir Media. In 2021 revamped to [[label:2540734]] under Empire, then Warner distribution. Please look up the logo on a specific release carefully to distinquish which one of these three labels should be used.
