"In Dulci Jubilo" is Mike Oldfield's rendition of a famous [R. L. Pearsall](https://www.discogs.com/artist/701811-Robert-Lucas-de-Pearsall) theme that is now part of the traditional repertoire. Mike recorded 2 versions of this tune : the version on this single is the second one, and is the most commonly found. It was recorded in November 1974 at [[label:The Beacon]] and in October 1975 at [[label:The Manor]]. It starts with the acoustic guitar "riff" immediately joined by piano together with the melody played on pipe. This is the version that was also released on the [m=17820] compilation, and on some scarce reissues of the album [m=16108] in 1976, often in replacement of the last song "On Horseback" (aka The Horse Song) -- see examples [here](https://www.discogs.com/release/922267-Mike-Oldfield-Ommadawn-Featuring-In-Dulci-Jubilo) and [there](https://www.discogs.com/release/627703-Mike-Oldfield-Ommadawn-Featuring-In-Dulci-Jubilo). Another version of "In Dulci Jubilo" exists, that was recorded earlier (end-1974). That version, subtitled "For Maureen" starts with the pipe melody, accompanied only with electric piano, in a long fade-in until the other instruments suddenly join in. It was released as the B-side of [Don Alfonso](https://www.discogs.com/master/413374-Mike-Oldfield-Don-Alfonso-English-Version) single, and much later on CD, notably in the 2010 reissues of Hergest Ridge (see [example here](https://www.discogs.com/release/2385471-Mike-Oldfield-Hergest-Ridge))
