Kraftwerk's ninth studio album, released in November 1986, five-and-a-half years after the previous album, '[m=3112]'. 'Electric Cafe' was delayed for several reasons, including [[artist:92412]]'s cycling accident in 1982. The album was originally to include the 1983 single '[m=78835]'. As with all of Kraftwerk's studio albums from '[m=2877]' (1977) onwards, 'Electric Café' was issued in English- and German-language versions. A Spanish-language version – the 'Edición Española' – was also available for a limited time. Unlike earlier albums, all versions of 'Electric Café' feature lyrics in several languages. In 2009 a remastered version was released under one of the album's working titles, 'Techno Pop'. On this version the original 8:03 album version of 'The Telephone Call' was replaced by two tracks: the 7" mix of 'The Telephone Call' (3:50) and the remix 'House Phone' (4:57). Both had originally appeared on the single release of '[m=101932]'. Although [[artist:364272]] was a member of Kraftwerk until 1987, he did not perform on the album.
