Record Label

Torso

Est. 1939 US Part of Torso Records

Dutch independent label that basically had two incarnations: Torso was set up in the late 1970's by [[artist:Dick Polak]], [[artist:Hansje Joustra]] and [[artist:Peter Dispa]], releasing records by [[artist:Mecano (2)]], [[artist:The Rousers]], [[artist:Mick Ness]] and [[artist:Mekanik Kommando]] amongst others, sometimes in collaboration with [[label:Plexus]] or licensed to [[label:Ariola Benelux]]. After 1982 the label was inactive for a couple of years, after which it was sold to [[label:Boudisque]] and a second life for the label began. From around 1984 Boudisque started releasing records on Torso which were either licensed from independents like [[label:Beggars Banquet]], [[label:Ralph Records]] and others, or their own signings. From late 1980's the name [[label:Torso Dance]] was used for dance oriented stuff. After Boudisque went bankrupt in 1994 the sublabels [[label:Go Bang! Records]] and [[label:ESP Records]] were bought by [[label:Roadrunner Records]] and Torso went into oblivion. Distributed by [[label:EFA]].
