Record Label
A New York hip hop label that released many classic hip hop records from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. Founded in 1986 with [[artist:Len Fichtelberg]] serving as President, it initially operated closely with Fichtelberg's [[label:Prism]] label. In late 1987, it signed a five year distribution deal with [[label:Warner Bros. Records]] corporate parent and effectively began to operate as an imprint until early 1994. It was subsequently distributed by Epic Street/SME Records and transitioned into a reissue label as it ceased issuing new material. LandSpeed Records acquired the [[label:Cold Chillin']] brand around 1998. However, [[artist:Big Daddy Kane]]’s works remained with Warner Bros. Most of the label's releases were by members of the [Juice Crew](https://www.discogs.com/artist/173222-Juice-Crew-All-Stars), a loose-knit group of artists centered around producer [[artist:Marley Marl]].
