About Dr. Dre
Dr. Dre is the stage name of [[artist:251429]] (born February 18, 1965, in Compton, California, USA), an American record producer, rapper, and entrepreneur. He is credited as a critical figure in the popularization of West Coast G-funk, a style of rap music characterized as synthesizer-based with slow, heavy beats.
From the 1980s to the 1990s, he was formerly a respective member of the [[artist:1458]] and [[artist:13726]] In 1991, following his departure from N.W.A. and [[label:7801]], Dre co-founded [[label:19737]] with the controversial [[artist:185511]] and [[artist:39155]]
In 1996, after releasing 1992's [[i]The Chronic[/i]](https://www.discogs.com/Dr-Dre-The-Chronic/master/33951), he left Death Row and founded his label, [[label:2310]]. He has since produced albums for and/or overseen the careers of many rappers, including [[artist:132084]], [[artist:38661]], [[artist:14753]], [[artist:79578]], [[artist:209748]], [[artist:37906]], and [[artist:1778977]].
In 2006, he and [[label:2311]] co-founder [[artist:170807]] co-founded Beats Electronics. In 2014, Beats was acquired by computer giant Apple for $3.24 billion, making Dr. Dre, one of the richest figures in the American hip-hop scene.
