About Demon

Jérémie Mondon (aka Demon) is a French composer and producer whose work blends house, funk, and hip-hop influences.

Born in Paris in 1977, Mondon's musical journey began in childhood with purchases of singles and cassettes provided by his grandfather, which included artists like Depeche Mode and Mel & Kim. His passion for hip-hop (particularly influenced by Mobb Deep) developed during his adolescence, leading him to collect albums. Despite a lack of formal education in music, he began learning instruments around the age of 11 or 12 after his mother enrolled him in piano lessons. These lessons also introduced him to music-oriented tools & synths. Mondon's musical education was primarily self-taught, lacking a real piano at home, he purchased a Roland D5 synthesizer for practice, and began exploring music. In 1997, during the rise of rap music genre in France, he produced an underground album with his rap group/collective [[artist:Symbiose]] titled "Prophétie" and released his first House music EP as [[artist:Demon]] titled "A-Typique." He also co-founded the French house music label [[label:20000st]] with with [[artist:Tukula Da Silva]] & [[artist:Julien Creuzard]] ([[artist:Jayrockz]]). Mondon's subsequent EP, "Electronic Boogie," was launched in April 1998 & a 12" on [[label:Poumtchak]] (a sublabel of the famous Parisian label [[label:Disques Solid]], created by [[artist:Etienne De Crécy]] & [[artist:Alex Gopher]]). He released his first LP, "Midnight Funk," in 1999, which featured the international club hit Demon vs. Heartbreaker "You Are My High". Jérémie had already completed and published the record when he wrote "You Are My High". He was about to begin a tour with his live set when, in his studio, he felt the desire to create a uniting track that would be the highlight of his live presentation. The track was later reincorporated into the album when it was rereleased in 2000. This single's controversial, sulphurous & now cult music video (featuring hardcore adult actress of the time [[artist:Draghixa]] performing a languorous French kiss on a man in an interupted 2'30 sequence shot) garnered significant attention and was nominated at the French "Victoire de la Musique" awards. This led to Mondon's nomination for "Best French Act" at the MTV Music Europe Awards in 2002. He soon became a sought after remixer (the remixes were regrouped on the 2001 cd compilation "Branding") working for the likes of Daft Punk, Alex Gopher, Jean-Louis Murat, Mr. Oizo, Etienne De Crécy, Etienne Daho, Bran Van 3000, Benjamin Diamond, Roy Davis Jr., or Modjo. At the end of the French Touch era, following the release of his more hip-hop-influenced second album "Music That You Wanna Hear" (2004), Mondon returned to his first love, and began producing for established names of the French rap scene (La Rumeur, 113, Rim'K, A.P. , Mokobé, Mafia K'1 Fry, Spécio).
