The year is 2000. I am still living with my parents. Still making music hoping it will land me a fun group of friends. I borrow my mom’s “good” mic on a day she isn't home and invite Monique over to sing. Monique is this tiny fierce black chick who lives in a trailer up the road. She can sing. I play house beats into one channel of the DAT deck and Monique’s mic into the other. From this, I pull some samples to use in a track, which in 2000 is a drawn out, arduous process. But so much fun, such rewarding work. I find some antique dinner bells and record them in, pitch them way down and play them rhythmically. I hang a mic by its cable and dangle it down the stairwell and record in a singing lesson going on downstairs in the living room. That's the piano and singing you hear!!! drenched in reverb. This is also around the time I plug my guitar back in and start trying to sync up reverse reverbs and auto-wah with the beats, which you can also hear in the tracks. Early experiments in Rithma land. Over the years, I have received many messages about this release, from people offering $100 for the vinyl to people asking straight up “why don’t you make music like that anymore”, and well…. It’s not something I control really. Even as electronic music is intentional and mapped out and saved on disk, it is still a picture of a moment in time, something that happens once and may not happen again. So here it is, [[release:35049824]], re-encoded off the old DAT tapes, slightly remastered tracks from my very early days, back by popular demand.
