I Will Survive was originally released as the B-side to a cover version of the Righteous Brothers song Substitute. It became a worldwide smash hit for Gaynor when disc jockeys played the B-side of the record instead. Subsequent copies of the record were eventually pressed with I Will Survive as the A-side. The song was a huge hit well into 1979, and remains one of the most popular and recognized disco anthems. It has since become an iconic gay anthem as well. This master release contains releases with either I Will Survive or Substitute as the A-side. I Will Survive was remixed and re-recorded numerous times over the years.
