It was supposed to be an authentic record of the 1979 tour but Columbia and Alfa couldn’t reach agreement on a fee or royalty rate for Kazumi Watanabe’s guitar work. Under pressure to release the album anyway Sakamoto and possibly Yano performed synth overdubs based on his guitar performance, particularly the solos. The result makes the album more “synth” than the real recordings were, which eventually came out on “Faker Holic”, “Live at the Greek Theatre” and one of Sakamoto’s Year Book releases. Early vinyl pressings have the intro to “TVC15” by David Bowie playing at the end of Side One. This was the track played by the DJ in The Venue in London after YMO left the stage. It was edited out for the CD release in 1984 and all subsequent reissues. Most CD versions have the Greek Theatre announcer playing at the end of “The End Of Asia” rather than at the start of “Cosmic Surfin’”. The Music On Vinyl (MOV) clear vinyl pressing edits out most of the audience applause between “Tong Poo” and “The End of Asia”.
