US promo release 11 Nov 1983; US retail release 14 Nov 1983. 11% of retail sales were split between the Malcolm X estate and [[artist:Keith LeBlanc]], as a settlement for a lawsuit initiated by Sugar Hill Records, which claimed a stake in the record because the principal musicians were their employees (LeBlanc was a session musician, and producer Chess was a consultant).
