See also the CD reissue: [r=6113976]. Jam Science was initially recorded for Y Records, but the band departed from the label before it was finished. To fulfill their contractual obligation, mixes were completed from the work-in-progress without the band's involvement, and the resulting album was released by Y Records in early 1984. Meanwhile, Shriekback signed to Arista and continued work on the album. Their officially sanctioned version was finally released in late 1984. As compared to the Y Records version, several songs were replaced entirely, and the others appear as very different mixes, with most, possibly all parts re-recorded, and new parts added.
