Notes

"Fools Gold" was heavily influenced by the Dust Brothers-produced [[artist:Young MC]] track "Know How", which featured a wah-wah guitar sample from [[artist:Isaac Hayes]]' "Theme From Shaft", the break from "Apache" by The Incredible Bongo Band. The lyrics are influenced by the film "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" and also reference Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" and The Velvet Underground's "Venus In Furs", which was itself inspired by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch's 1870 novella of the same name. The track was originally released in 1989/90, then reissued without approval from the band by [[label:Silvertone Records]] in May 1992. There is an alternate (probably earlier) mix of the full length "Fools Gold" on [a 1992 UK promotional CD from Labatt's 500](https://www.discogs.com/release/968513-Wet-Wet-Wet-T-Rex-Stone-Roses-Labatts-500-The-Taste-Of-The-Nation?redirected=true). It is very similar to the commercially released version of the track, but has some different timing and sonic elements, and a slightly different mix of the elements present.
