Notes

Release Date: 1975 Label: Columbia Records Miles Davis, Trumpet, Organ Sonny Fortune, Alto Saxophone, Flute, Soprano Saxophone Pete Cosey, Electric Guitar, Percussion, Synth Michael Henderson, Electric Bass Al Foster, Drums James Mtume, Percussion Reggie Lucas, Electric Guitar Teo Macero, Producer Tomoo Suzuki, Engineer Agharta was recorded on February 1, 1975 at Osaka Festival Hall, Japan, the same day as [m=163835]. The Agharta concert took place during an afternoon matinée, whereas [m=163835] was recorded in the evening. On all versions, the track titles on the second disc have accidentally been swapped. Side C is actually "Theme From Jack Johnson" (which is a full performance of "Right Off" and ends with a version of the theme from "So What", a track from Davis' 1959 LP Kind of Blue), while side D is actually "Interlude" (and is a medley of "Ife" and "Wili"/"For Dave".) For CD releases, these two tracks were merged into a single seamless track, again with the titles accidentally swapped. This mix-up has never been corrected. The master tapes for Agharta were heavily remixed on release. The original Japanese LP pressings of Agharta featured more detail in and separation of instruments, as well as added reverb; this mix has become standard since 2006. A second, dryer and less full-sounding mix with 9 additional minutes of music on the second disc was used on European LP pressings; this master was used on [the 1996 Master Sound CD pressing](https://www.discogs.com/release/1046026-Miles-Davis-Agharta) from Japan. A third mix by [[artist:284196]] only appeared on 1991 US CD copies under the Columbia Jazz Contemporary Masters banner. The master tapes for [m=163835] share a similar story, albeit no European LP pressings were made.
