Record Label
American record label based in New York City. Owned by Universal Music Group (UMG). A division of [[label:UMG Recordings, Inc.]] (as of 2022). Founded by [[artist:Avery Lipman]] and [[artist:Monte Lipman]] as an independent label in 1995, and acquired by UMG in 2000. Initially an imprint of [[label:The Universal/Motown Records Group]], and renamed [[label:Universal Republic Records]] after a reorganization in 2006 (thus merging Republic with [[label:Universal Records]]) before going back to its original name in 2012. In 2024, Republic, [[label:Island Records]] and [[label:Def Jam Recordings]] were aligned to operate under UMG's newly formed "East Coast Operations" unit, [[label:Republic Corps]]. Also appears as "Republic" on some releases.
