Polar is a Swedish label, founded in summer 1963 by [[artist:Stig Anderson]] & [[artist:Bengt Bernhag]] as a part of the [Sweden Music](http://www.discogs.com/label/Sweden+Music+Ab) publishing company. The very first act they signed was [[artist:268733]]' band **West Bay Singers** which eventually was rechristened to [[artist:322475]]. Bengt Bernhag was label's house producer until his death on 13 July 1971. After his death that role was overtaken by [[artist:975170]] (until 1974). The company was sold to [[label:PolyGram]] in 1989, and since 1999, Polar has operated as an imprint of [[label:Universal Music AB]]. See also the [[label:80362]] and [[label:7352]] companies.
