US record label once owned by [[label:GRT]] (*General Recorded Tape*) Corporation; it distributed the [[label:Chess]] (as a subsidiary label until 1977, when it was sold to [[artist:Sylvia Robinson]]'s [[label:All Platinum]] Records), [[label:Barnaby Records]] (from 1973-78) and [[label:Westbound]] (from 1970 to 1975, when it switched distribution to [[label:20th Century Records]]) labels. For all unofficial / bootleg copies of this label please use [[label:969479]] Artists who recorded for Janus included [[artist:Al Stewart]], [[artist:The Whispers]], [[artist:Ray Stevens]], [[artist:Cymande]], [[artist:Pickettywitch]], [[artist:Cissy Houston]], and [[artist:Mungo Jerry]]. It also issued the [[label:Sonet]] recordings of [[artist:Bill Haley And His Comets]] in the US during the Seventies. The label broke off from GRT just as that company was becoming insolvent; it still exists today only to lease its master recordings to other companies to reissue.
