Record Label
Recording arm of filmmakers [[label:Avco Embassy Pictures Corp.]], launched in 1969 as [[label:Avco Embassy]]. The name was shortened to Avco in October, 1971. Artists, producers, songwriters and A&R men [[artist:Hugo Peretti]] and [[artist:Luigi Creatore]], better known as [[artist:295511]] were tapped by Avco Embassy Pictures President Joseph E. Levine as the label's Vice Presidents and CFOs upon startup in 1969. The label's biggest group was The [[artist:Stylistics]], who charted over a dozen hits. [[artist:Van McCoy]]'s "The Hustle" was Avco's last major chart hit. At the end of 1975, Avco Embassy Pictures decided to exit the record business, and the company was sold to Hugo & Luigi, who renamed it [[label:H & L Records]] at the start of 1976. Today, the Avco catalog is today owned by [[label:Amherst Records]].
