He released eight solo albums from 1976 to 1998. He co-wrote [[artist:Roberta Flack]] & [[artist:Donny Hathaway]]'s "Where is the Love" and [[artist:Bill Withers]]' "Just The Two Of Us"

He started his career at the age of 16 as percussionist for [[artist:Harry Belafonte]] and was a member of Belafonte's band for 10 years. He played as a session percussionist in many artists' recordings over the ensuing decades, including [[artist:George Benson]], [[artist:David Bowie]], [[artist:Aretha Franklin]], [[artist:Art Garfunkel]], [[artist:Billy Joel]], [[artist:Quincy Jones]], [[artist:Carole King]], [[artist:Miriam Makeba]], [[artist:David Sanborn]], [[artist:Paul Simon]], [[artist:Steely Dan]] etc.

He co-founded publishing/production company [[label:Antisia Music, Inc.]] with longtime songwriting partner [[artist:William Salter]] and [[artist:William Eaton]] in 1968. He founded [[label:Rosebud Recording Studio]] in the mid-1970s.
