American rock guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and producer. Born on 1 February 1950 in Panama City, Florida, USA, and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. Has resided in Woodland Hills, California, since 1981, where he has a home studio. Spouse of [[artist:Marcie Campbell (2)]], father of [[artist:Kelsey Campbell]].

Heavily influenced by [[artist:Bob Dylan]] and [[artist:The Byrds]]. Best known for his work with [[artist:Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers]], with whom he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Formed first band, "Dead or Alive," in 1968. Met [[artist:Tom Petty]] in Gainesville, Florida, in 1970. Joined Petty in [[artist:Mudcrutch]], which relocated to Los Angeles in 1974. Then formed [[artist:Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers]] in 1976.

Founded [[artist:The Dirty Knobs]] in 2000 as a side project.

Campbell, along with [[artist:Neil Finn]], temporarily joined [[artist:Fleetwood Mac]] to replace lead guitarist [[artist:Lindsey Buckingham]] on their world tour in 2018-19.
