Jazz pianist, organist, flutist and singer. Youngest brother of [[artist:Lonnie Liston Smith]] and Ray Smith. Son of [[artist:5383521]]. Father of daughter Yaisa Smith & son Tecumseh Smith.

A piano progidy under the tutelage of Ondine Moore, Smith had a great singing voice as well. After graduating from Armstrong High School, he departed Richmond to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he met Dee Dee Bridgewater and George Duke. Shortly after arriving in New York, he started playing a weekly gig in Harlem at the Showman’s Café with saxophonist Bill Saxton and drummer Greg Bandy. He went on to play with Art Blakey, Pharoah Sanders, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Benny Carter, Andrew Cyrille, Carter, Lester Bowie, Oliver Lake, Craig Harris, and the Thad Jones - Mel Lewis Big Band. He has worked with vocalists such as Leon Thomas, Gloria Lynne, Tuliva-Donna Cumberbatch, Fontella Bass and Mansur Scott.
