Death Cube K is an alias of avant-garde guitarist Buckethead created to avoid Sony Records' contractual restrictions and release a more experimental / dark Ambient type of music.

The moniker, an anagram of Buckethead, was given to Buckethead in 1994 by Keyboard magazine writer Tom Darter, whom he knew through Guitar Player magazine. It would later be reused by New York Times bestselling author, godfather of cyberpunk, and friend (& fan) of Bill Laswell (producer of the first Death Cube K albums), William Gibson as the name of a Franz Kafka-themed bar ("a bar in Tokyo Japan where strange things happen") in his 1996 novel Idoru.
