About Curtis Mayfield

American singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer, born June 3, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois - died December 26, 1999 in Roswell, Georgia aged 57. Co-founder of R&B vocal group [[artist:The Impressions]] in the late 1950s. In the mid-1960s, he founded and owned the soul labels [[label:Mayfield Records]] & [[label:Windy C]]. He left The Impressions in 1970 to embark on a solo career and co-founded the record label [[label:Curtom]], alongside [[artist:Eddie Thomas]].
