Cornelius Cardew (7 May 1936–13 December 1981) was an English avant-garde composer, and founder (with [[artist:Howard Skempton]] and [[artist:Michael Parsons]]) of the Scratch Orchestra, an experimental performing ensemble. He later rejected the avant-garde in favour of a politically motivated 'people's liberation music'. His sons [[artist:Horace Cardew]] and [[artist:Walter Cardew]] are also musicians.
