American soul and pop singer, born in Los Angeles on 13.10.1958.
In her early music career, she played and toured with [[artist:Michael Henderson]] and his band, as well as with [[artist:Luther Vandross]].
She achieved major success as a solo artist with the production team of [[artist:Jimmy Jam]] & [[artist:Terry Lewis]], hitting with her first top-ten single, “I Didn’t Mean To Turn You On,” in 1984. A year later, it became a huge hit for [[artist:Robert Palmer]] and, in 2001, for [[artist:Mariah Carey]]. She scored again with the team in 1988 on her album Affair, where the title track reached the top ten and the ballad “Everything I Miss At Home” went number one on the Billboard R&B charts.
She has recorded famous duets with [[artist:Alexander O’Neal]], “Saturday Love” on her 1985 album “High Priority” and “Never Knew Love Like This” in 1986, off his “Hearsay” album. Both reached #2 on the Billboard R&B US charts and were in the US top 40 and UK charts. The pair reunited in 1997 for a remake of [[artist:Patti Austin]] and [[artist:James Ingram]]’s “Baby Come To Me”.
Cherrelle and her cousin [[artist:Pebbles]] had a top 20 US R&B hit in 1991 with the ballad ‘Always’ along with [[artist:Johnny Gill]] off Pebbles’ album of the same name.
Cherrelle continues to tour and perform across the country.
